How to prevent dwarves from getting water
« on: January 12, 2015, 05:03:10 pm »

Hi all!

How to prevent dwarves from getting water from any place other than well? I tried to place water source zone over well but it doesn't count as water source zone at all.

Thanks in advance.

Use zone only, they will still use wells.

Regular dwarfs shouldn't drink from wells, because alcohol makes them happier and faster.
But if you still decide to build one, dwarfs should prefer drinking from a well. If they rather drink outside something might be wrong with your well. You might want to try removing and rebuilding it, or enabling the correct jobs (architecture and mechanics if i'm not mistaken.

If your well is fine, you can also burrow most dwarfs inside/where the well is. They won't be able to drink outside then. The use zone only order might also work, but i usually don't change orders (exept for refuse), so i'm not sure.

*fine tips*
It seems like he wants them to use wells instead of river when bathing and giving water to injured, not making them get sober (that would be inhuman undwarfy)

Yes, that's it. Is it possible to make dwarves to take baths via well only?

Well, setting the orders apparently has no effect on wells, so setting to zone only without having zones probably will make them use only the well.

o-z-d
You can change between prefer drinking zones and zone-only drinking.
Sadly it works for every water-gethering job who was taken AFTER change your setting, so They will be draining your zones when you will set some ponds or for washing or for feeding somebody using water.

If dwarf pathing is blocked to your zone and he is REALLY desperated to get water, he will drink from other source... sometimes...

In my fortress dwarves are dying from old age.
Dwarven wine is a little bit like good chicken soup:  solid at room temperature.
