Orbits - browser spaceship simulator

A 2D simple game I'm making in my free time. Fly around in a spaceship with realistic physics. Look at planets spinning around you and dodge asteroids, or try to get into orbit around any planet if you have lots of spare time.

I'm out of ideas about what to add, feel free to suggest anything.

Some kind of indicator for the direction to the N-nearest planets/gravitational bodies, maybe? One small tweak would be I can't seem to do time acceleration since shift controls throttle--I can't hit plus at all as far as the game is concerned. Or maybe time acceleration just isn't in? I'm not sure what equals does since minus doesn't do anything at x1.

Shhh! Spoilers!

I use the numpad +- as well, and that seems to work. = turns time acceleration back to zero. The scroll wheel is not mentioned in the controls HUD, but it zooms in and out, which helps locate planets.

Also, I noticed that the brown planet doesn't kill you if you touch it, so you can push it around. I managed to run it into blue planet, which I was unreasonably proud of :D. Unfortunately, I got caught between them when they collided.

If you're taking suggestions, I think it would be cool if you made it more random; maybe have it generate a new solar system from a selection of different planets every time you reload the page. It's already awesome though!

When I started making this you could land on planets. Later, I noticed that if you land on something, the gravity will pull you with a lot of force, and you would push it into a different orbit, into the sun or anywhere really. Even the sun could be pushed away.

That'd do it. Sort of a pain on a laptop without a dedicated numpad, so I guess it's still a valid usability suggestion?

Update! (If you don't see anything new, ctrl-F5 until fixed.)
  • New graphics!
  • Sort of menu screen to reduce clutter!
  • Compass pointing towards the sun, zoom in to see!
So yeah, that's it. Do you like the new planets?

BTW, over 100 people have played the game so far! *High fives himself*

I think it's because an asteroid collides with it and it gets sent off course, because I forgot to fix it.
