I am a big fan of spacechem game and programming/managing genre (KOHCTPYKTOP: Engineer of the People , factorio, minecraft gregtech mod ..) in general. I had this idea for a long time: spaceship construction facility using programmable/indirect mechanic. Like user setups a factory in some way and then the factory builds ships following the provided algorithm. The more effective solution the better and faster ships are build.  So far i could not come with any interest concept. Maybe someone could share the ideas on the subject.

Maybe instead of ship-building, you could have a starbase hanger manager.  Hanger has entrance and exit doors that different types of spaceships need to access, and you program the hanger robotic arms to:

1)  Send ships out the appropriate doors.  (Ships have different sizes and shapes)
2)  Take ships coming in and either send them to storage(if undamaged) or to the repair bay if damaged.
3)  Repair bay ships must then be sent into storage once repaired.

Um, just brainstorming.   :P

Edit:  OR!   :P

You could have a whole space station that has a damaged reactor core.  You can right an algorithm to provide the needs of the population by re-routing power along the stations power lines to different parts of the space station through the day.  You would also have a limited number of Helper Robots that could help with things.

So you might need to route power to different doors, or start up the kitchen module for breakfast.  Maybe reroute some of the power from life support so you can turn on the lights.  Humans can survive with somewhat crappy air for a while.   :P

You could even have fun by having alien citizens that have different requirements (more nitrogen in atmosphere, eats 7 meals per day) and trying to mange that programatically.

You get points for every citizen you keep alive.
