Multi-level stockpile?
« on: January 09, 2015, 07:44:09 pm »

Well I'm not talking about quantum stockpile and like.

I think stockpiles and zones should work like burrows. Or at least they can be managed in groups (multiple stockpiles sharing the same settings).

I'm now a fan of vertical fortress. But I really hate to use tons of smaller stockpiles on all those levels. If I don't have dfhack, I have to manage them one by one, quite frustrating sometimes when I make a mistake and suddenly no seeds for farmers.

I like the idea of multiple level stockpiles.
Better, the idea of [merging] stockpiles via an option that lets you set the exact same settings to another stockpile, from what it takes to where it feeds.

Zones should be multi-z-level as well. And then we could merge zones and stockpiles.

EVERYTHING SHALL BE A ZONE!

Multi z-level stuff is cool for those of us with a flair for architecture and interior decorating(get over it man you can be butch and appreciate a good mezzanine).

You can't make anything too grand or incredible with just 1 z-level. As lavish and sumptuous and aluminium statue ridden you make a room, it'll always seem miserable if you imagine it to be 1 meter high or whatever 1 DF square is.

Halls of Moria, man.

Also, if you have a refuse pile, it makes no sense to lay out the garbage neatly along the ground. It should just be thrown in there in a big pile. Same for stockpiles of rock, wood and other things.
