Anyone know how odors work?
« on: December 20, 2014, 01:31:20 pm »

There doesn't seem to be any information on the wiki explaining how odors work and I was wondering if anyone could explaine it. I understand that it is supposed to play a role in tracking but by adventure smells things like death or cooked flesh in strange places with out any way to track the source. Is it just that more for smell is planned for the future?

You can press W to see where the wind is going. Odors are usually carried along with the wind, so go to where the wind is coming from.

Smell seems to radiate out in a 90 degree cone, though I don't know whether the outer edge of said cone is a quarter circle or a straight line.

I am trying to make chickens lay bees as eggs. So far it only produces a single "Tame Small Creature" when a hen lays bees.
Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.

It also helps if you're an elf. Elves have far better smelling than humans who have terrible smelling.

Its a feature. Impregnating booze is a planned tech tree for dwarves and this is a sneak peek at it.
Unless you're past reproductive age. Then you're pretty much an extension of your kids' genitalia

Success! Followed the smell of cooked flesh and promptly got my arms broken by a night troll.

How is it I can murder entire rooms of fleshy meatbags and somehow the scent of all the blood coating everything doesn't even register?  :o Elves sure have selective noses...
