Peregrine falcon corpse out of nowhere.
« on: December 09, 2014, 09:09:08 am »

So, I have embarked on a 3x3 fully untamed wilds biome.

It is the first year, the fort must be 6 months old. Maybe even younger.

There IS an evil mountain about six or seven world tiles far away from my fort, but I didn't embarked on an evil biome at all.

There IS also a necro tower in my world, but I don't think it's in my surroundings, and I have no zombie siege currently underway either. (Unless zombie sieges are now ambushes)

And there was a peregrine falcon a while ago. A living one, now there is a zombie falcon (not sure if it is the same).

And the only thing in the Deceased list is a river otter (dog tore it apart)

After interrupting one of my dwarves, the zombie falcon is now on the highest z-level of the map, well away from my animals. Aren't these things ultra-hostile ?

What gives ? Stealth necromancers ? Armok trolling me ? Animals actually leaving their biome ? Am i going to have dangerously large amounts of fun in a little while ?

Edit : The falcon zombie is not only perfectly immobile and harmless but right above my embark and just pissing me off due to dwarves fleeing in terror. I've never seen a dog go THAT fast, ever.

Edit 2: Run dfhack reveal, no hidden necros. Run cursecheck, apparently no hidden necros. Alright, what the fuck ?

I am admittedly not too knowledgeable about pathing mechanics on and off the map, but with the new activated world, units off the map continue on doing their thing. It's possible the thing wandered off the map, died a gruesome death in a reanimating biome and then wandered back. Or its just another falcon that died in such a biome.

I'd be real interested to know if you keep getting undead visitors. Might be a good way to get my feet wet with zombies without just throwing myself straight into an evil biome.

That can be possible. It is interesting, however, maybe I'll get a few undead creatures due to being relatively close to an evil biome.

Meanwhile, another peregrine falcon zombie happened, and killed a dog and then immediately after a dwarf.

Seems the surroundings of evil biomes are fun, as well.

Could be worse, could be a stealth weremammoth corpse, but that's clearly impossi-

*the weremammoth corpse silently bashes me in the back of the head with a steel war hammer and tiptoes away*

do you have a save from when you first embarked? That sounds like fun.

I've run into undead creatures a ways from evil biomes (not counting the historical ones), so yeah they can appear even when you aren't directly on an evil biome.
