How do I ...dump vermin remains properly?
« on: December 09, 2014, 12:20:55 am »

I know this is kinda old.

I had done that without much problem in 40.13. I built a fairly large refuse and corpse pile and they'll put those dead vermins over it.

In 40.19, however, I found the refuse stockpile no longer allowed more than one item on each tile. Before that I could have a rat remain over a bone, but now they just stopped stocking things if all tiles were occupied. So I made a garbage dump zone.

But dead vermins were still occupying the stockpile, I had to manually clean them up, and dorfs tended to ignore those already on a stockpile even if there's a big D beside their names. If I enabled "gather vermin remains", they will dump them, but they would also haul all dead things from all over the map to the stockpile...

So what do I do now? Kill/pasture all cats?

Well maybe I can disable "remains" in the stockpile setting page.
I just figured out.

Well, yes, but that means the vermin remains will be left inside the fortress to rot and produce miasma. You could, of course, set up a separate stockpile (QS or otherwise) for vermin. Beware, however, of the "feature" that FB remains will be put on any refuse stockpile unless you "disables all" before enabling remains. This is because FB remains are of some hidden types that are not affected by any of the other settings, including the category ones.
