Endless Age of Myth, Bug?
« on: December 09, 2014, 06:39:16 am »

On Linux since 40.16 my worlds never leave the Age of Myth. I've genned Large, Medium, Small and pocket, with vanilla and custom world gen params. The longest gen I did was a 9999 pocket world. It's not a case of leaving and coming back (e.g., Second Age of Myth), rather the worlds never exit the Age of Myth.

Has anyone else seen this?

There's a bug report about that here. I guess your findings could help confirm that there is a bug rather than just bad luck.

Well, after killing enough titans (most of them) and a couple BCs, then letting a year go by, it changed to age of legends, so it's not that it absolutely can't.

I'll post my observations on there, both this post and some others.

When you looked at the legends in these worlds, were most of the megabeasts dead? Still living?

For the worldsave that I just finished up, yes.

Of the hydras, two out of five were alive at the end of main worldgen, all four of the Rocs (they didn't breed), three of the four BCs, four out of five dragons, and all nine of the titans.

While I do have the number of megabeasts at 18, this is unchanged from before 40.19 and before that, it would regularily go into age of legends within a century most of the time and after 300 years, most of the megabeasts are dead by 300 years. I'm using the same world parameters as the one I posted up in that bug report and the only changes I made were to lower the number of secrets to 14 since the towers were proliferating a little due to the higher number of secrets.

I've found similar things with the age of myth lasting much longer in the more recent version, however it's not a bug as worlds still go into the other ages just fine. It's instead that more megabeasts are surviving because megabeasts were really buffed up in world generation. I used to generate medium worlds with 100 megabeasts and 150 semimegabeasts and it would turn to the age of heroes before year 200. Now I do that, all civs except maybe one goblin civ get wiped out before year 200.

Its a feature. Impregnating booze is a planned tech tree for dwarves and this is a sneak peek at it.

I've also noticed that minotaurs, which used to generally thrive, now don't even last 300 years, there might be one. The other semi-megas generally do well.

Theres also an explosion of named animals for some reason, mainly alligators, sasquatches (I think those are immortal anyway?) and giant dingoes.
