Numeric Digging / Job Assignment Sounds Awesome
« on: December 10, 2014, 09:37:54 pm »

So stoked about the latest Toady update.  All you neurotics that like to design a full fortress while paused can now designate dig orders without leaving sections unconnected.

Pretty f'ing sweet.  Apparently it works for all kinds of jobs.  YAY!

BTW, Is this the right place to talk about dev log posts?  No one ever seems to do so here.

It doesn't really matter what is the subject of the post, we will always end up derailing anyway, so post it wherever feels right.

This new way of design sounds great, I imagine having half fortress already designed before the first unpause.

Also, vein mining! I love how vanilla games pick up elements of existing mods as they go along :P

Huh, first thing that pops in my head is it'll be handy for getting miners in and out of dangerous spots quickly, for breaching magma tubes/hell/siege prep/etc, having a better path control option than just send him in and designate another square elsewhere. Lots of new options open up with this though, I like.

I still want coordinated tunnel breaching.

Say, making 3 breaches into magma simultanously.  Foraethestics, if nothing else

this sounds like a step in that direction

I would be surprised if you were afforded that level of control directly, but if you can give jobs an numeric rank assignment and turn your dwarves loose at the same second on that numeric job, then I suppose would be more possible than it is now to have a simultaneous breach.

Also, simultaneous breach sounds like some kind of dwarven mining sex act.

I was always afraid to think about whether df rule 34 was a thing... now I'm more afraid than ever.
