This seems so fantastically pointless given that nothing that happens in the game can possibly affect continuity.

Cyanide seemed to manage just fine. Middling reviews, but I thought it was fun.

Telltale did a good job with The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us. They're choosing a little corner of Westeros that's undefined and making it into a game that I expect will turn out pretty darn good.

This seems so fantastically pointless given that nothing that happens in the game can possibly affect continuity.
They circumvented this by making the game take place in a different time frame or creating new characters within the universe in their earlier games. I bet they'll do something like that again. I always had high hopes for Telltale games and they never failed to meet them.

They kind of can't do it in a game like this. The characters are kind of set in stone unless they make up a completely new kingdom that cannot possibly exist.

The existing characters are set in stone. Nobody knows anything about House Forrester or what's happening with them.

This seems so fantastically pointless given that nothing that happens in the game can possibly affect continuity.

It can. The TV show and books don't technically have the same continuity (minor, and I'm sure some not so minor, events differ between them), but they're both canon. All it would take is for one of them (probably the TV show) to show a character from the game in the background and boom - canonized. The plot might not impact the books, but that doesn't mean it can't be canon.

Show was bad compared to books.

Not getting a game based off a bad show based off an okayish book series.

I bet you're fun at parties. Did you stop by this thread just to disparage the people who are excited about the game?

I keep TV shows and books separate when I talk about canon.

Given the name this is meant to invoke the TV show and not the book.

and based on their previous work

Ohh you poor innocent fool. You haven't seen their other work have you? :P

I have played both seasons of Walking Dead, and Wolf, and they are excellent.  In both cases Telltale hit a home run with seamless stories within original IP that wasn't theirs.  Kotaku's review of Telltale's take on Borderlands indicates it may continue.

Neonivek likes complaining about games.

Telltale's Metacritic profile. Even given the unspoken rule that anything below an 8 is considered garbage, that's pretty good. Especially considering something like this.

I like giving my honest opinion on games. The weird continuity is what keeps me from this game no matter how good it is.

Because it isn't in its own bubble of continuity, its meant to be in continuity with the show.

What Walking Dead did was just completely make up other survivors which was possible because the show is a VERY narrow focus on a few select survivors (because of course).

I am not here to whisper honey into your ears and join the game's incredibly sizable cheer squad. Nor am I just complaining for complaining sake.

it'd probably be more of an attraction for those whom the show appealed to more then the books.
given there's hardly any if at all info about house forrester i'd keep a certain distance until i'll see some reviews coming in.

I'm honestly not sure if I'm ready to dive into another Telltale Series.

The first Walking Dead was great but broken it lots of ways and Wolf looked stunning but I'm happy watching or reading Game of Thrones. I don't need to see weird Digidinklages.
