Can tree trunks/leaves/branches support floors?
« on: November 17, 2014, 06:47:43 am »

If you build a floor so it is alongside a tree will it be supported? (e.g. if you deconstruct stuff on the other side of the floor)

Branches and trunks will support buildings, twigs don't. If a construction overlaps _any_ tree tile (branches or twigs), the entire tree will disappear without a trace. This can be harmful for builders. I haven't checked whether doing this will cause supported constructions to cave in, but it's very likely.

The one building type that can be stuck in trees without restriction is the bridge - you can build bridges over branches and twigs without harming the tree, and branches and trunks will support them. Bridge tiles overlapping tree features are ignored for inside/outside calculations and pathing, however. Dwarfs can walk on bridge tiles over tree branches, but not over bridge tiles on twigs. This makes building walkways in trees possible but difficult. You need places where you can step "off" a tree without going through twigs, because those are completely unpassable, bridge or not.
