Lavish Meals

Are lavish meals worth making? I usually just put that on repeat and it uses up so much food.

Accidentally made over 5000 copper maces once. I have no idea how that happened.

Yes.  They are.

They add up all the ingrediants into the full stack (So 5 quarry leaves, 2 hunks of tallow, 18 dog meat, and 10 yak cheese gives you a stack of 35 roasts), and count as the entire range of ingredients so far as dwarf favored foods are concerned.  They also have quality which, when high, can give dwarves a good thought (Think it reduces stress in 40.16, haven't played with the new versions all that much).

On the other hand, early on it's a good idea to turn your booze off for cooking, that way they don't burn through it making ale roasts.

You can also sell roasts for quite a bit in trade, though it's kind of exploity because they're over-valued.  Kind of on the same level as selling trap weapons.

If you put 4 max sized gathering zones around your fort you get ridiculous amounts of fruit, leaves and whatnot. Maybe a fisherdwarf or two and you will be drowning in food soon.

I just sell trap weapons. Too paranoid to sell my own food, usually I buy some just in case from traders. Recently a dragon got into the stockpiles in my fort, and almost everything was destroyed. That was fun. I suppose I actually would have been better off trading the meals in that case, since they were going to be charred otherwise.

I'm not sure whether flour and quarry bush leaves are edible raw, but I know they are edible cooked, and they are definitely a good food source once you get the production line running smoothly...

Neither can be eaten raw.  But quarry bush leaves make especially good filler if you can keep enough bags on hand to utilize their meal-padding qualities.
