Dwarf Fortress (Not Responding)

I like making a new world for each fort. I had 174 worlds in the end after a few months of 34.11. Now I've made something like 60 for 40.xx. But now, for some reason, I can't make new worlds. Either everything stops at lakes, or it stops responding at "Finalizing Sites" and never gets responding. I got an absolutely perfect world nearly done, and now, it's just sitting there, not responding. This is the fifteenth world to do this to me since upgrading to 40.15. Why can't my computer make new worlds in 40.15?

I was thinking more along the lines of this legendary champion, all clad in dented and dinged up steel plate, his blood-drenched axe slung over his back, a notch in the handle for every enemy that saw the swing of that blade as the last sight they ever saw, a battered shield strapped over his arm... and a fluffy, pink stuffed hippo hidden discretely in his breastplate.

i still can only make small worlds, used to be able to do large  :'(
