Yeah, according to loading screen tips you can't cancel bids. Bummer.

Everything worked out better than expected.

The seller is a notorious AH player named Ashe, and for some diabolical reason his AH addon put up another Kaelball glyph for 65g.  At first that seemed crazy, but then as I was buying it I realized oh, that's why.

Lucky me though, someone outbid me on the other glyph so now I get a very rare glyph for 65g and a sudden pile of gold as I'm approaching 70

I have very fond memories about early wow years (such as vanilla and TBC expansion), but thinking about it is a bit depressing, since i lost touch with almost everyone i used to play due to various reasons and i'v been out of the game since wotlk

Every now and then i get an itch to play again, but im afraid at this point it doesn't live up to my expectations and experience in terms of gameplay and community

They went too far with a "lobby gaming" philosophy, everything is so convenient you barely have to leave a town anymore, just wait for a queue pop and get paired up for twenty minutes with a couple of strangers from another server, who you will never see again after you are done.

Fist shaking and reminiscing aside, i might actually grab that xpac since they are putting flying mounts on hold (till first major patch i believe), so i'll be able to kick some butt in world pvp for old times' sake

And Cthulhu are you still playing ? how is it going ?

Still playing, 85 now.  Finally got my first dragon mount.  Sure it's just the bronze drake which is a joke to get now, but still I'm happy :3

The lobby gaming thing is kind of annoying but at the same time, was it really fun and interesting to spend an hour going /1 LF1M heals for pinnacle pst?

Usually it took a couple of minutes to find someone

And it wasnt about getting items, not for me at least. World pvp shenanigans aside, talking to people on the way to a dungeon was my favorite part of the whole experience.

At that time i was still a kid living in siberia (with a very limited knowledge of english language and things in general), sheltered from different people and their culture. So having a small talk with a brit, awkwardly discussing world war II with a german, befriending a swede - were all very surreal experiences for me, since for the next 5-6 years i had precisely 0 chance to meet any of these people in real life.

Communication was a key to everything, people were interacting with each other, creating a huge but for the most part surprisingly decent community and now its all gone. There's no incentive to do anything anymore, you just can press a button and voila.

Even bugs used to bring people together, remember wall climbing ? Especially on alterac valley, where you had designated strike forces of 5 to 10 people going to a mountain wall at the primary Alliance base and trying to infiltrate it via wall climbing... and hilariously failing like 95% of the time. Or exploration, when you fell through the world but instead of dying you were able to get to places you were not supposed to. Now its all fixed and cleaned up, sterile even.

Blizzard made every possible move to destroy creative usage of ANYTHING, forcing people to play "their" game instead of building around what community already figured out by itself. Though its not surprising, since in TBC, Tom Chilton became a lead designer and project director for WoW. Tom Chilton that ruined Ultima Online.

Well, I agree and disagree on a few points... though I guess I want to be pretty optimistic about the future.

Usually it took a couple of minutes to find someone

If you were on a large server, yeah. Smaller? Not so much. I shudder to think what some servers would be like (including my own) if LFG did not exist.

Communication was a key to everything, people were interacting with each other, creating a huge but for the most part surprisingly decent community and now its all gone. There's no incentive to do anything anymore, you just can press a button and voila.

I don't really know where to stand on this. I know where you're coming from for sure.
Though, I think this is just as much a symptom of a server dying. I suspect large servers still have a culture, but someone else would need to weigh on in this. Blizzard is trying to fix this by the Connected Realms thing, time will tell if it works.
But, there's still always guilds.

Then there's RP servers. Those are always... special.

As an avid wall-climber myself, I do miss it. It is kind of a shame they did get rid of it.
They probably had their reason though. While it seemed harmless most of the time, it did have exploit potential for BGs and instances, even if it was hard to pull off.
Doesn't matter anymore anyway. Every place except instances, BGs, and the TBC race starting zones can be flown in now.

And besides... the playerbase has never, ever stopped looking for bugs and places they shouldn't be.

Bimping one more time, I'm 90 now on my warlock.  Gotten a pretty decent look at the various things available to give my opinion on how things are now.

PvP changes are good and bad.  PvP power and resilience were added a long time ago to deal with the giant disparity between player HP and player damage output, but that just meant that getting into PvP without the gear was hell on Earth.  You'd still get blown up in one shot, but you couldn't do shit to the enemies either.  They rectified that with flat PvP resilience, at level 90 you automatically take 72% less damage from all player sources, which is a huge deal if you're a fresh 90 getting into PvP.  You still hit like a noodle, but you can actually survive long enough to drop some cc and contribute to the game slightly.  I'm in a mix of last season's honor gear and the current season's conquest gear with 32 of that 72% negated by my pvp power, and I'm pretty much Battlestation Warlock.  I have to mostly stand still so warriors/rogues/dks mess me up, but if I'm ignored I'll wipe half the enemy team.  Good times.

HOWEVER the pvp resilience is also in world pvp.  So while raid gear is subpar but survivable in BGs (it gets scaled down in BGs), in world pvp people in raid gear completely destroy people in pvp gear.  If I'm in full grievous gladiator gear I'm like ilvl 520.  A guy in a raiding guild has like twice as much HP as me, way more damage, and free huge resilience.

I don't like raiding much.  The new LFR system is basically LFG but with five times as many faceless silent people you'll never see again.  There's no social interaction in the game anymore it feels like, I've joked that it's a single player game with multiple players.  I mean yeah, if you're in a good guild you've got it there, and there's still the more difficult raiding content, but even the more complicated stuff still feels kind of empty.  There's no more bosses dropping loot that has to be divided up however the raid feels, everybody rolls to get their own personalized loot.

I do love transmog.  I love it a lot.  I went through and did Black Temple and Hyjal for the malefic set and I wear it in PvP, I look rad as hell.  Overall I think most of the non-social changes are great.  I love the new class mechanics, I love my destro warlock and I love that all the fun but useless abilities like infernal and dreadlord are awesome now.  I like the mechanics of the raids even if I don't like raiding very much.  There's a huge difference between even the ultimate old dungeons like black temple and what we're seeing now in every raid boss.

I'm also really into like, the money aspects of it right now, which is weird.  I'm a transmuter and I love making gold off of it.  I've got enough now that I don't really have to farm anymore, I can buy all my mats in bulk and move enough product (lol you thought warcraft was a game?)  to turn a profit, and I've even gotten into some minor speculation.

I'm not sure about BGs in general though.  Either my battlegroup is way too small or there are some serious demographic issues they should find a way to smooth out.  It's like the tides or something.  On weekdays during the break the alliance wins practically every game, then when work starts letting out the horde dominates.  Weekends vary.  Right now it's Christmas, and with Call of Duty and Battlefield 4 occupying people's attention the horde is just trashing the alliance in every single BG, to the point where it's not even fun anymore.  I feel like there shouldn't be such a huge distinction in the playerbases that you can predict who'll win a BG based on what demographics are playing at the moment.  Also the BGs themselves have big distinctions.  I've never seen Alliance win Strand of the Ancients or Eye of the Storm, and they rarely win Silvershard Mines.  They usually win Kotmogu, but if the horde actually gets their shit together and plays right they stomp.  AV and Isle of Conquest are pretty well known, the horde can win AV if they try (Get some good players to defend Galvangar and break the zerg and the alliance falls apart) but almost no one who still queues for AV and Isle of Conquest tries anymore, I'm pretty sure they're mostly bots.  I haven't seen horde win AV since Burning Crusade and even then they usually lost.  Most of the other ones vary depending on the time of day.

Oh also I think there should be some dynamic story PvP stuff.  Raiders get to break the grip of the Sha on Pandaria and then besiege Orgrimmar to stop Garrosh.  Meanwhile PvPers have been fighting over the same few acres of land for years, with no change at all.

We need a PvP continent, with zones that can be controlled by the factions.

I read on WoW forums that crafting (my #1 favorite thing in MMOs and only reason I play them. Not to raid or boring things like that...or even PvP...but to craft)...was HEAVILY nerfed.

You can only wear 4 crafted items at a time? Meaning crafting is useless and not worth doing. And I think other changes have ruined crafting as well, but don't remember what was posted.

If that is true, I'll gladly skip over this. Which doesn't mean the expansion is bad (if you only want to raid/pvp/dungeons I guess its fine), but as a crafter, it would be.

When I did WoW...I loved tailoring/alchemy/engineering and enchanting...only wore crafted items (refused to get anything dropped) and only wore items I made myself. Made WoW a lot more fun :)

That definitely kills a big chunk of the game for me too.  I liked the crafting game too, mainly transmutation since a living steel or primal diamond multiproc could be five or six hundred gold in pure profit and raiding's too casul now for any real potion demand.  The few groups who still give a shit about potions already have suppliers set up.  Not that transmutation was all that great either.  It was going sort of well when I first got in but my server was too small to drive the demand.  Since gems and metals don't expire you pretty much rely on new item tiers and new high levels for demand and my server was too small.  Everybody already had their shit and not enough new people were coming in.

It was small enough that I killed the market within like a week or joining it.  With the extra competition prices started dipping below overhead within a couple days and pretty soon diamonds and living steel were both consistently unprofitable.

Downsampling and the right sweetfx preset...and wow does wow look good. One of the better looking MMOs to be honest.
