So, i have a little problem, there is a few game where me and my friend plays but its most often hard to keep everyone up to date when doing mod updates etc. ( Think minecraft ).

So lets say i have minecraft, we are about 6-7 playing but then a major mod updates comes out and i want to install it, i have no problem installing it, but some other player are not that good with computers in general. I tought about using something like dropbox, but the problem with dropbox is that if i share connection information anyone fiddling with their dropbox folder on their computer would screw up what is on the internet. What im looking for is like dropbox but with guest accounts where they can use *dropbox* program to monitor if there is a new file version and automaticly download it but they cannot *upload* anything to the dropbox account.

I then tought about SVN, but all free alternative require open source project and i cannot setup a server on my own machine either. Anyone got any clue on alternatives?

DF doesn't mold players into its image - DF merely selects those who were always ready for DF.

Minecraft UI is very simple. There's only so many ways you can implement "simple" without copying something. We also gonna complain that it uses WASD?

Mediafire can work for it.

2gig limit though without paying.

Well, if you actually are using minecraft, the Technic Platform is actually pretty good for what you're doing. You basically create your own mudpack (can make it public on website or just private via links) and people with access to the mudpack can install it on the technic platform client, and it'll automatically update the mod whenever there's an update.

But otherwise, doesn't dropbox have a mechanic where you can let other people with their own dropbox accounts have an automatically updating folder of something in your dropbox?
(e.g. I give you Folder X over the mechanic. Folder X is on your computer's dropbox folder somewhere. I add a file to folder X. It gets added to your end as well, like a regular dropbox file)

You should really look to the wilderness for your stealth ideas, it has been doing it much longer than you have after all. Take squids for example, that ink trick works pretty well, and in water too! So you just sneak into the dam upsteam, dump several megatons of distressed squid into it, then break the dam. Boom, you suddenly have enough water-proof stealth for a whole city!

hmm I gonna try www.box.com, as for mediafire its for hosting only, doesnt provide the auto-update thingy, as for the dropbox sharing, i believe i could investigate a bit more, illinvestigate dropbox first then move to www.box.com, thanks all for your suggestion :)

I prefer mega.co

Look it up on google.

I can upload 10+ gig files (perfect for my skyrim mod overhauls). I just recently uploaded a 30 gig 7zip file.

TONS of space (I think it starts at 100gb, now I have 1 TB of space just cause I've been on it for a long time)

(edit: Looks like they dropped it to 50. And guess I have actually unlimited space just because I was one of the first to sign up. Still 50gb should be enough for most people and its more than what others give you. Plus not many allow 10+gb uploads.)

(edit: Not like space matters entirely. I have multiple dropbox/mega.co accounts :P Space is a non-issue. Just make a 2nd/3rd/4th account...would need multiple email addresses of course.)

Try BitTorrentSync

It's available for most platforms. You can set up folders with read only access. Has no space limitations. Only downside is 1 machine needs to be online when another one wants to sync.
