Very small question about jumping
« on: November 03, 2014, 05:07:06 pm »

This new jumping mechanics kinda bugs me. Most of the times when i try to jump, this line of jumping appears:

And other times, this happens:

I mean, how can i get the second line of jumping? Do i have to be sprinting or something?

Yes. First applies when you are standing. Second applies when you are already running in the pointed direction and depends on your speed.

If your speed is lower than 2, you can jump in every direction, two tiles away.
If your speed is between 2 (including 2) and 3 (but not 3) you can jump 2 and 3 tiles away.
If your speed is between 3 (including 3) and 4 (but not 4) you can jump 2,3,4 tiles away.
If your speed is between...

Dwarven wine is a little bit like good chicken soup:  solid at room temperature.

I think the missing piece is not that jumping is misunderstood, but that movement is misunderstood.

There is now velocity and inertia.  From a standing start, you begin moving slowly.  For each step in the same direction, you begin moving a little faster.  You can also now set your movement rate, which affects speed, stealth, and fatigue.

So:  drop your backpack, set it to sprinting, move a few steps in the direction you want to jump, and then hit the jump key.  see how far you can go.
