How do I get goblins to show up again?
« on: October 31, 2014, 01:14:57 pm »

One thing that has frustrated me to no end in the latest version is that goblins pretty much never show up. In over a dozen forts since .40 came out, I've had 1 goblin siege only, which happened to be a dwarven squad. I've tried embarking right next to their settlements and I've tried increasing their litter size but to no avail. All I want is goblins to show up with a semi regular frequency to siege my fort so I can have some fun.

I was wishing for the same thing, to finally be able to try out my defenses. My second invasion came early summer 257 (started 250), so it took quite a lot of time. At least the invasion was of a reasonable size. Some of them decided to flee, though, so I didn't get them all. Also, there is a strange "stay close to the leader" behavior, so they stopped walking into my traps fairly early. Conclusion: if possible, activate your traps when the army (or at least the leader) is in the middle of the defenses, otherwise your militia will have to was their clothes from blood.

I haven't had too much trouble getting goblins to attack, they seem to show up at more random intervals than they used to though, it's not always in winter, they can show up whenever they feel like... and depending on how world simulation works, it may just be that the goblins don't go near your fortresses, maybe set up a base between goblin lairs and a different civ so you catch them on the war path or something...
