[40.01] Creatures experiencing mortal fear
« on: July 09, 2014, 09:42:18 pm »

I embarked with a bunch of animals and they get random panic attacks and when I "V"iew them it says "experiencing mortal fear", any clue to what does it mean?

It means the morale system needs some tweaking  ;)

But really, something (probably unintended) is frighting the animals into a state of maximum panic. This is pretty common for everything right now.

Animals in my pastures used to kick the hell out of each other to the point of breaking all their limbs, so maybe they're going to START combat with each other, and then they get scared of the combat that hasn't happened, then run away from each other.

In adventurer mode, I unretired my adventurer who experienced mortal fear of his own shadow (there were no other creatures anywhere), causing him to disobey my commands by pulling out his weapon and fall from a cliff.

This seems like a serious issue, I shall have to add [No Fear] to everything.

it's still present in [40.02] but seems to be a feature... It seems that now creatures get scared off by wild creatures and get that status, in my forts I've figured that it was flyng creatures that were scaring my animals...

You can fix it by adding NOFEAR to your livestock species. But it is a feature because animals often scare each other even in real life.

Actually it makes sense... I got a kobold thief.... and instead of beelining to the closest map border he started runing around the forest scared, climbing trees, trying to hide... my recruit was able to reach him and hack his head this way... in older versions it would have been impossible the kobold would have outrun him by far...

You might want to check out this mod: http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=140460.0
Among the changes is adding NATURAL_SKILL_DISCIPLINE:1 to all civilized creatures, predators, trainable creatures, etc.

Playing 40.13 now. I have a dwarven child, a lone survivor (out of a fort of 200). He is stuck outside the fort. The goblins, trolls, demons, and forgotten beasts are inside (along with all the rotting corpses). He is very unhappy, and: "Reg Ginetonul, Dwarven Child cancels Sleep: Mortally Afraid". He must be having a blast.

You can't make an omelette without melting a few dwarves...
The purple overseer hat weights heavily on one's head. Some would argue that the leadership of Doomforest is uneasy to bear for too long. Others would simply suggest that we don't craft the next overseer hat out of rutile.

... if you managed to keep that child alive and restart the fort... that will be freaking impressive.
