Switching to 0.40.13
« on: October 21, 2014, 12:43:31 am »

Hello

I'm still using 0.40.05, but it's for a funny reason.  So I downloaded the starter pack, which had a number of graphical options... that didn't work.  So I started to look for other option and I found Mayday's version, which looks pretty nice and was easy to install - and away I went!

... but it's still on 0.40.05.  Sometimes i see strange bugs, and I don't know if it's something that's been resolved or not.  I figure I probably should transfer to 0.40.13... but I'm not sure how.

I really want to keep my saved game, and I would prefer to be able to keep Mayday's graphics as well if possible.   Advice, instructions and suggestions are welcome!

cheers,

1.) Download Dwarf Fortress v0.40.13 and extract the files to a *new* directory (do not overwrite an older installation).

2.) Copy the save game folder(s) in data/save/ from the old version to the new version (you'll need to create the 'save' folder).

3.) Download the Mayday tileset for v0.40.13 and follow the installation instructions.

4.) Edit any of the settings in the new init files (do not copy over init files from a previous version)

Thank you very much...

but I don't think Mayday has a 0.40.13 tileset.  His website's latest version is 0.40.05.  Unless I'm not looking in the right place?

What you can do is see whether Mayday actually needs updating for 0.40.13 or not. You need to see what raw files Mayday replaces and check those same rawfiles to see if they have changed between 0.40.05. Google for 'multi file compare' for a suitable utility.

If some files have changed, then you can try modifying the 0.40.13 ones with the changes needed.

No, they went to Hel, where they lead a bleak existence in cold and darkness. Valhalla is reserved for valiant warriors.

This thread seems to have the latest information, in particular this message provides a link to raws for v0.40.13. (I have not actually installed this tileset, so I can't confirm that it works as suggested.)

I was doing things one at a time, and after copying the saved folder I wanted to confirm it stilled work... and it does, but to my surprise Mayday's graphic ported over!  Not only that, I was also able to used the DFhack attached to the current version (it autolaunched!  how cool is that) to deal with an unpick able food bug that was stinking up my fort.

The font doesn't look quite right but overall this is a success :)

Thanks!
