Agreed. Democratic Socialism is one of the best forms of government we've come up with so far. Now if only it worked in practice...

It's kind of like having to have a license to be a parent
Or at least in the sense that it sounds great but wouldn't work in reality

Parents should need a license to be parents to stop abusive and bad parents
A sort of certificate of ability to raise a child

But that probably wouldn't work in practice

I remember this SF book called "Violet Eyes" that had that concept of having to get family licenses. It was sort of a sub-plot, but it didn't end well in-universe. They sterilized people who didn't pass some kind of magicSCIENCE test for abusiveness and such. Which is a lot of hand-waving. And it still didn't work. A couple who couldn't have children because the male was abusive got around it by having the female get pregnant another way and pretend that it was theirs. And then later, when the kid gets beaten to death, the male gets off scott free because they had a child and that OBVIOUSLY meant that neither party could have been abusive. Still, looking at the parents of Bay12ers and some of my friends/acquaintances, there should probably be SOMETHING that you need more then functioning genitalia in order to have children.
