Strange Military Screen Glitch
« on: October 17, 2014, 09:46:46 pm »

Ok, been away from DF for a year or so and trying to relearn how to play again. I was trying to set up my first squad, a 1 person setup I wanted to send through danger training. I was able to create the squad and add him to it, but after hitting the default "no uniform" selection, I got some weird screen listing all the dwarf's preferences, searchable even. I hit escape to close that out, and tried to hit "m" to go back into the military screen to setup my uniform, but all I can get to come up is this preference screen. Exiting and restarted didnt clear it up. I cant get to the military screen to do anything, no uniform changes, scheduling, cant even disband the 1 person squad or make new ones. Anyone else have this happen, or have any ideas how to fix this?

I am using DFHack and Therapist, but I have not messed with hotkeys, just the fastdwarf and prospecting commands.

Manipulator cannot be activated via hotkey - it can only be activated from the Units screen.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

Ok, restarted my PC on a lark.... and that odd screen is not appearing now. Military screen opens normally. Seems really odd though, dont recall ever seeing a searchable list of dwarf preferences before lol... Just to clarify, this list wasnt just the 1 dwarf I had put into the squad, it was a list of preferences on the left, and as I scrolled through it, a list of all dwarfs with that preference appeared on the right.

Yeah, I didn't think it was manipulator exactly, just something like it as he didn't say it was the jobs list, but I couldn't think of a plugin that would do that exactly.

Sounds like therapist bled through the walls of reality into dorf fortress somehow, is there a plugin that lets you do that? Is this a bug or a feature?

Ok, glitch is back again. I have been playing around with it to see what might be triggering it. I started DF without using Therapist and was able to open the military screen two or three times normally and the glitch happened on the next attempt to open it. So Therapist isnt causing it. I dont know how to remove DFHack, but I didnt use any of the commands in it either, so I would not think any DFHack plugins are causing it. Can anyone tell me how to upload a screenshot? I can try to post one of the screen, maybe someone else will recognize it. Like I said, I have never seen this screen before.

Got no help for you im afraid.  But i've seen this a couple of times before too, the military screen spontaneously seems to remap itself to the manipulator.

Im sure Quietust is right in saying it has no hot-key (he usually is), but i have seen this and have opened it with 'm' in much the way you describe.

I generally would save, exit and relaunch until it behaves itself as theres no other way into that military interface other than 'm'.

I wish I had something cool to say about this.  Because it's really cool.

I dont know what "manipulator" is. Is that a plugin for DFhack, or something else? More importantly to me, is there a way to completely remove or disable it? It is more important to me to be able to run my military than to see what the dwarfs preferences are lol.

I've encountered a bug where dfhack thinks I'm holding down <alt>. I find that minimizing all my windows fixes it.

I have had this using DF starter pack. Apparently it has to do with some of the key bindings in DF hack. It normally occurs for me when alt tabbing to check DF therapist. There is a problem where the game still seems to register the alt key as being pressed and pressing alt again would solve this, as Pink Photon says.

Ok, that makes sense, I WAS alt-tabbing a lot to use the DFHack console, and to check Therapist and the wiki. I will check it out as soon as I get a chance to fire up DF again. Thanks! Maybe I will start running DF in windowed mode instead of full screen lol.
