Howdy. I have 878 unforbidden bolts, mostly bone but some other types. In the military ammunition screen, I have three squads assigned bolts:

Hunters  - bolts (100)
Fortress Guard - bolts (300) CT
Rangers - bolts (300) CT

The Hunters have 95 bolts assigned to them.
The Fortress Guards have 1 forbidden bronze bolt assigned to them.
The Rangers have 0 bolts assigned to them.

What is going on? I have tons of bolts available but no assignments are being made, so my two combat squads are patrolling in front of captured goblins having a staring contest. I tried issuing a temporary move order to see if it would rejigger the system--nada. I also reduced the count to 290 in hopes that that would rejigger it as well--nada.

It could be the much-disputed ammo-in-bins bug. If you upload a save someone will take a look at it.

I will add that when I (q) browse over the ammo stockpile (which has bins), and hit (i) for show inventory [dfhack] followed by a <tab> to expand all the bolts, it says there are 867 bolts in the stockpile and 3 ammo bins. I don't know how accurate the (i) from dfhack is though.

The general fix for "you put ammo in bins" is:

Make more ammo

If you have 700 total assigned, make like 1400-2800 bolts (2x to 4x).

Or, y'know, don't use bins in ammo stockpiles. You can dedicate a workshop to bolts and just leave them in there until there's stockpile room.
