Pressure plates and hatch covers
« on: March 15, 2008, 06:13:00 am »

Has anyone gotten hatch covers to be opened by pressure plates? Mine just won't open at all. I've used masterwork mechanisms for the plate and exceptional for the links, yet the cover stays closed...I DO have set it to get triggered by citizens, BTW.

My guess is that the pressure plate isn't being held down long enough to activate the hatch cover.

Huh? It has to be held down? This drastically reduces it's usefulness in my eyes. Drat.

no it doesn't...

There is a long delay between the two, though.  A goblin can walk about 10 squares after he triggers a pressure plate.

Well, the hatch never opens after having been stepped on. I even tried to see it with the one step a time "." feature...it just doesn't open, ever. And lots of dwarves are walking over it.

I think there might be confusion on terms here.  Hatches as far as I can tell act just like flat doors.  You may be thinking of grates.  Are you trying to have the 'grate' open and drop something down below it?

I have not played with hatches/grates connected to levers yet so just trying to get things clear.

Last I checked, pressure plates don't actually trigger for citizens, due to a bug.

It's bug 554:

Yeah, well it says "doesn't reproduce", so its probably usually working. I'll try to get a save up next week.
And yes, I'm trying to have a garbage dump closed by a hatch cover open automatically when a dwarf comes close to dump something. I can't use a grate, because miasma can get through it, and sometimes I have to dump corpses.

No, I want an automatic system. Why are pressure plates in, if they don't work?

Dwarf 1 walks on the plate.  Hatch is about to open.  Dwarf 2 walks on the plate.  Hatch remains shut.

Is that possible?

Shouldn't be. Usually when a mechanism is working, additional commands are ignored. Try linking a floodgate to a lever, and queueing two Pull commands. The gate will open, even though the lever says it should be closed. You'll need to pull the lever twice to get it shut again.

So we can test them, of course
