Where the goddamn hell are my save files?
« on: March 15, 2008, 03:54:00 am »

My world is getting a little smelly from all the dead adventurers. So I want to delete the old one and start another. Only, I can't  find my save files in the save folder. In fact, absolutely nothing is in there.   :(

If your data/save folder is empty (no folders named current or regionX) then your save no longer exists. Can you still load your previous world ?

Yes, I can. If it means anything, I couldn't export the world pictures to the DF folder neither.

Search for world.sav

That should be easy.

Does Vista really affect where saves are? Tsk tsk... another reason for me not to install Vista ;p

Check in c:\users\(your username)\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\

Essentially this is a security measure that disallows non-admin programs from writing to Program Files, but instead of breaking, "virtualizes" it and sticks them in that user-writable folder instead.

You can allow or stop your dwarves from eating these mushrooms, but it's entirely optional and doesn't turn Dwarf Fortress into Dwarf hookah-smoking pad.

That was the first feature of vista I turned off.
