dam brooks

I've got this brook on my map that is 4 tiles wide, I'm thinking of pumping it up a level to go over my wall so I can flood enemies when they come, to make it so it don't just circle back under my wall waiting till it freezes and then building a wall across the channel

how many pumps to I have to use to raise a 4 tile wide brook two Z levels without it overflowing due to lack of flow?

I don't understand what you are trying to do.

Are you trying to create a water reservoir above (or around) your brook ?
Are you trying to wall off the sides of the brook two Z-levels up and then raise the river ?

In the first case, you need one water pump per Z-level to pump water up.
In the second case, I'm afraid that's impossible because the brook will drain any water above it.
