So, more oddities.  I made a copy of the save, retired the fort, and re-exported everything in Legends mode.

#1 - Our 'extinct' civilization has a king!  Ascended to the throne in year 400.  Prior to that, was a member of Curse of Dreams from 386-400.  That's the goblin civ that took over all the sites in years 167-168.

However, Legends Viewer says there are 30 dwarves alive in Ropes of Work, and my embark site (Coppermine) has 30 dwarves.  The king's name appears nowhere in the list of my dwarves.

So either the king exists only in limbo, still lives with the goblins (who we are still at war with) or he's a vampire dwarf, masquerading under another name.  But in nearly three years I have not had anyone drained of blood.
