I have a GOBLIN queen?!?
« on: September 27, 2014, 02:28:11 pm »

What in Armok's name happened here?

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I noticed the announcement: The goblin outpost liaison has arrived. So I checked the civilization screen. Indeed, we are ruled by a goblin queen and have some human and goblin nobility. 0_o

The Civilization screen doesn't show any human or goblin civs. Did they get wiped out? Not that I'm sad. I embarked near a necro tower. So I should get all the FUN I can hope for. I could start a war with the elves but they keep bringing tame elephants... (I already fixed the grazing values. The female elephant turned out to be a lesbian though.)

PS: Some more lulz:
One of the migration waves included a blind marksdwarf. (The Vx in the health screen means blind.)

If she has an unfortunate accident a new Monarch will have to be appointed.  Which would be a shame because she is immortal . . .

If the goblins are conquered by dwarves and survive for long enough time (they dont age) then they might get a lot of friends and high skills and indeed marry the king.

...she is immortal . . .
But not invulnerable. Bloodstone is a proud dwarven fortress build next to a volcano. Accidents do happen... =3
Do I have to expect big problems if the monarch dies in an accident? Like tantrums or loyalty spirals?

Anyway, it's pretty awesome what can happen in DF. There are new surprises all the time. I really need to learn how to access the legends of my continent.

One thing I noticed is that all my dwarfs are actually dwarfs. No humans or goblins among them. Will this stay that way or will I get some goblins if I ever make it to mountainhome? How will that even work? Will the goblin queen really move in with some of her subjects at some point? What do I need to do to become the mountainhome?

An 'insurrection' would likely cause a loyalty cascade.  But her falling victim to magma mist would only sadden her friends.

In fort mode dwarves stay pretty isolated, only receiving 'npc'  foreigners.  Adventure mode likely has a few non-dwarf npcs hanging around your sites; whether or not they belong to your civ.

All the experiments I know involving adding other species to your fortress population were in 34.11 and ended up in them acting more like pets than dwarves, although they would often take over elected positions.

Work up from Barony to Duchy, accumulate enough architectural wealth, give enough offerings to dorf caravans, and wait.

So no immortal legendary weaponsmith, eh? A couple of human soldiers with two-handed swords would have been nice, too. Well, that's a shame. On the other hand, it would be impossible to make clothing or armor for humans atm. (I don't get human caravans since they are conquered.)

I'll keep working on those offerings. Now I just need to find somebody fit to become a noble. Maybe I have somebody who likes bolts. My last king mandated scepters. That was a pain and a half making them.

Thanks bunches for the answers!
Originally I just wanted to build a nice, large fortress from bauxite blocks and have some undead for marksman training but Bloodstone has now become the center of a secret plot to overthrow the queen!
