Dwarf Fortress documentary needs help
« on: September 24, 2014, 05:23:54 pm »

I’m working on a short documentary about Dwarf Fortress and I’m looking for help.

I need someone with experience and knowledge of DF to help me capture gameplay and build a exemplary game to be featured upfront in the film. I want this so people with no experience can appreciate the detail and complexity happening and I want to show it in the original ascii. The game would be fortress mode to start.

Ive filmed with Zach and Tarn, and Im working on the edit of that footage and looking for someone to help with the gameplay at the same time. I would like the game to show a fairly advanced level so we can get a picture of the possibilities. This is a passion project for me and I have no financial backing but Im willing to discuss payment too, especially if you are willing and capable to devote a lot of time to the effort. We can discuss.

I appreciate any response and if you are interested let me know how much time you could have per day / week to help.

I also welcome any ideas or suggestions.

Thanks!

Ooh, sounds cool! Try to find as many interviews and podcasts of Tarn as you can. He always gives the gist in a helpful, interesting way.

Also, read the planned features page to get an idea of where things are going (http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/dev.html).

It's a great bathroom read.

I like to make music especially for Dwarf Fortress and Soundsense in my spare time (https://www.youtube.com/simonswerwer, http://soundcloud.com/simonswerwer). Also check out Toadese Language Utility to read and write DF dwarven texts (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=136098). Bang the tankards!

Thanks Poonyen and Kirkegaard

I will reach out to quill18. Both Tarn and Zach have amazing insights. The interview could go on forever and bringing it all together into one nugget is daunting.

Im collecting funds to pay for this, it seems the best way to enlist help so if someone reading this thinks that sounds like a good 'job', get in touch.

Are you collecting donations?  If so, how do I donate?

Hi Moon Label,

I'm not collecting donations at this time. By collecting funds I meant just putting aside some money. Thank you for the generous offer though!
