You are a scavenger
« on: September 16, 2014, 10:21:08 pm »

The sun burns high in the sky, the heat radiating across the sand dunes. Sweat drips off of your forehead as you sigh softly, reaching up and wiping the sweat from your brow before you sigh. Taking refuge in the shade of a somewhat seedy tavern, you take your seat near the back and toss a few coins at a barmaid. Moments later a heavy glass is set on the table, filled to the brim with water. You pick it up and take a loud gulp from it as the cool liquid eases the dryness in your throat from a long day in the sun and the blasted scorching sand. After a moment you sigh quietly,  your eyes closing as you reflect on how you got to to your position. That's right, before you had gotten your inheritance, you had been a....

1. A driver, You would often take to the race tracks in the town, watching the high-speed death-machines tear through the track at dangerous speeds as they opened fire on one another with heavy, large caliber weaponry. You had even managed to convince a friend of yours to lent you his ride while you did a few small races. You have some experience in driving and about 200 coin from your winnings in the small time races.

2. A mechanic, Your uncle often had you helping out in his repair shop. You never earned much coin there, but you certainly managed to have a feel for how the vehicles worked. You had often heard the actual mechanics griping about issues or problems people would often overlook that would have prevent break downs. You are somewhat knowledgeable about basic vehicle maintenance. 40 coin saved up from working.

3. A scout, You had been part of a small tribe of roaming savages. Your knowledge of how to survive and even thrive in the hot, blistering heat of the desert has saved your life on more than one occasion. You know how the local wildlife tends to hunt and the terrain in the surrounding areas very well. However, your tribe had little use for the coin of others so you have none.

4. A gunner, You had often been hired on as a spare gunner on the trade caravans. You knew and had worked for some of the smaller trading factions in your town. Not to mention that you knew where and who most of the larger raider factions were as well as the areas they tended to operate out of. Your a decent shot and you've learned the best ways to keep your guns from jamming up and screwing from the constant sand and dust storms they seemed to pass across the desert every few days.

With quiet chuckle you shake your head, taking another swig from the glass you somewhat fondly remember the time spent in the mechanic shop. It had been a unholy, blistering temperature inside but you had learned many useful tidbits that had served you well and had certainly saved you many a coin in your young life. Although at times you had doubted it was worth it at all, especially when you remembered the red hot tempers of the elder mechanics. With a glance at your mug, you lift it up and finish off what is left of the water. Letting out a soft sigh as you smack your lips and leave the tavern.

Once your outside, the constant, rolling waves of heat seem to wash over you. Sliding your hands into your pockets as you make your way down the road to the garage. Eyeing a few particular scruffy fellows as you walk before shaking your head. This town had really gone to shit lately, not that it had been the best of places beforehand. Stepping into the garage and flashing a worn slip of paper at the attendant is all it takes for you to gain access to the parking areas. With a soft sigh you walk down the rows till stopping at number sixteen. There was only a single vehicle in the row. Yours. As you walk towards it, you let your mind drift to how you had acquired your ride...

I'll give it a few more hours to see if we get a tie breaker. If we don't, I'll just roll a die for which one we go with.

Science is always important. But it needs more flaming cats. Can't we build bridge-based catapults and fling flaming cats at the dust and goo?

It's time for the ATHATH Death Counter to increase once more in celebration for the end of the world.

Tied with Muscle car from a raid and van from a raid. Flipped a coin and muscle car won. I'll have the post up in a few hours when I have the free time to work on it.

This post is not finished. Done at work and heading home. I'll finish it when I get back. Locking the thread to stop any posts.

You remember that horrid night rather clearly in your mind. The stench of burning, acrid smoke and the echo of gunfire and screams throughout the town. You feel a small shudder run down your spine at the memory. Still, as bad as that had been. It could have been worse, you managed to make out of that burning town with the only family you have left. Your uncle. Your jolted from your thoughts as a rather familiar, thickly accented voice calls out to you.

"Resnov, I hope you haven't been waiting for long...Unfortunately, I did manage to get news of Eden.."

You turn and shift, leaning back against the rough metal of your muscle car as you look at your uncle.  Cryxsis looks rather troubled by the news he had found out. The trouble looked across his face only exaggerating the lines cut deeply into his skin. He looked to be in his late forties and was a rather short man. He barely reached five foot although despite his age he was practically bristling with muscles. Turns out working in that shop did wonders for keeping someone in shape. After a moment, he continues speaking.

"It was torched. Well, that's what the trade caravan that had been heading there had discovered. Looted clean as well. Bodies rotting in the sun and strewn across buildings. Those fucking Screws are goddamn savages. And cannibals if some of those rumors are to be believed....Fuckers drove a goddamn truck through my shop. Can you believe that shit?"

You let out a rather loud sigh at the news, reaching up and rubbing your forehead. Despite what you had seen of the attack, you had been hoping that Eden would have survived. If only so you could head back, but that clearly wasn't a option now.  You glance down at the ride your leaning on, getting a good look at it. It wasn't that bad off considering what had been done to the car. The front armor on it was heavily dented and had cracks running through it from it's impact on the building. Although the left armor was practically non-existent after that hit from the rpg. The twisting, maroon color tribal markings scrawled and painted across the vehicle mark it as property of the 'Loose Screws'. One of the many, small gangs that often fought over the trade routes and the right to raid them. They were never known to be much a particular threat to anyone in the past. You've never heard of them actually raiding any towns before, never-mind what they had done to Eden.

The gang paint and armor damage aside, you had gotten rather lucky. It had two front mounted large caliber gatling guns as well as three clips in the backseats. It lacked side weapons entirely and it only had a single, large bore harpoon cannon mounted on the rear.
