My first Underground River
« on: March 12, 2008, 09:35:00 pm »

Just ran into my first underground river and don't know the best way to go about using it. It has 5 snakemen, 2 frogmen, 3 olmen, and a cave crocodile. As soon as i checked out my unit list I envisioned a tame cave croc on a chain murdering kobolds. I checked the wiki and it says the animals in the river were immune to traps in 38a. I have the newest version, are the still immune? If so, whats the best way to clear the creatures out.

No, the creatures are not immune to traps. The best way to clear the river is through a nice safe fortification.

I'm playing on a map with a cave river full of about 4 pages of badies, and getting watter can be a little treacherous.

cool, I just got two of the snakemen in cage traps. Unfortunately, they dont seem to be tamable. Going to try to trap the rest now and set up a pit of doom for goblin captives.

*men are never tameable.  They also can't be butchered, but you can use their bones.

My current plan to use the snake/lizard/olm men I've got stock piled to see if I can desensitize my military to death.

The river clean out did not go quite like I expected. I capture or killed the *men. Then, Stabby McKillpants, my only marksdwarf, bravely drowned after dodging into the water. Then the Cave croc went on a psychopathic rampage killing two dogs and three puppys. He wandered into a cage trap when he had had his fill of dogmeat. He does not have a name but he has killed a pet, is he still tamable? I read storys about "tame" dragons that have killed dwarves still being hostile after taming.

The cave crocodile is an exotic pet. You will have to wait until the Dungeon Master arrives before you can tame it. As you have already discovered a feature on your map, this noble will come in an immigration wave after your have 50 dwarves.

Should hit 50 my next wave. I will let you know the results. I don't think I will back it up though. I will release him him from his cage in my barracks. If he wants to do something impolite its a +bronze Warhammer+ to the brain for him.

Should be safe to tame it. IIRC the thing with 'tame' creatures attacking dwarves is if they've killed a dwarf, not anything else.

There are three things I know about dwarves:
1. They've got beards. Even the women.
2. They're short. Especially the women.
3. They're Scottish.
