Huge lag spikes caused by hauling heavy items?
« on: September 10, 2014, 10:08:07 am »

This is just an observation I'm curious if anyone else has noticed.

When my dwarves haul very heavy items (stones, statues, anvils, etc) I have noticed it causes a noticeable drop in FPS. Is this just a coincidence, or is there something goofy going on with the code that's causing the slowdown?

This is more likely a secondary effect; are they using the last wheelbarrow allocated for that task?  Are they obstructing a major passage?  Are jobs being queued and then cancelled because materials aren't there yet?  Are they walking slowly through a work site and causing re-pathing that way?  Check for disruptions that they might be causing, in other words.  It's also possible you've hit a bug of some sort, so it's worth a bit of experimentation.
