I know that there was a bug that let charging unit phase through walls, that's why I need to get this straight once for all.
Can a goblin climb your walls and get into the fortress or the numerous goblin that just appeared inside and murdered everyone could only thank to the said bug?
Also, since I had less than 30 dorfs I suppose the 80 limit for invasions has been lifted?

Goblins can climb walls, yes.  They can also jump.

If you want to keep them out, you have to make sure you either have at least 2 Z-levels of smooth wall, or make an overhang at Z+2.

Also of note, they can use trees to get over walls, too.  So make sure you keep those pesky elf-brides at bay.

Or just put a roof on the fort.

Some of they masters can climb over smothed walls. When they leader is one of these masters, rest will do fun job, killing themself, alone... This is why i have always one dorf with axe and three with crossbows on walls.
