Divine metal
« on: August 04, 2014, 08:11:35 pm »

http://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/DF2014:Metal
On the "Metal page" Divine metal is listed as having a density of 1000 g/cm^3.
However the notes contradict that
Quote
Absurdly strong yield and fracture values allow even blunt weapons of this light material to be dangerous
1000g/cm^3 is not really a light material.

Considering the page on Divine metal and the raws on platinum it seems to me, that the density for divine metal should be listed as 1 g/cm^3 and not 1000 g/cm^3.
I've never seen divine metal in the game so I it would be great if someone could check this one out.

Densities in the raws aren't measured in g/cm³, they're actually kg/m³ (or g/L).  So for example, gold has a solid density of 19,32 g/cm³, which is equivalent to [SOLID_DENSITY:19320] in the raws, or 19320 kg/m³. So it should more correctly read as 1 g/cm³, for [SOLID_DENSITY:1000].

I noted this when i checked the raws for platinum.
But the wiki lists them as g/cm^3.
The page on metals lists divine metals as having a density of 1000 g/cm^3. I suspect this should be 1 g/cm^3 instead.
Problem is divine metals have no raws so I can't check if they are listed in the raws with SOLID_DENSITY:1000 or SOLID_DENSITY:1000000.
Wiki tells me divine metal has SOLID_DENSITY:1000 but also having density of 1000g/cm^3.

Some entry in the wiki has to be wrong. I asked if someone who has actually seen divine metals ingame could check this.

They have [SOLID_DENSITY:1000] in the generated raws.  I've changed the wiki entry to the correct density.

For the record, 1000 g/cm³ is five times heavier than slade[!!!]

Wasn't able to find it in the inorganic_metal.txt. Did I just overlook it or where can it be found?

It's a procedurally generated raw like forgotten beasts, but conforming to the formula of metal definitions.  It's in the world.dat, but the savefile needs to be uncompressed to get readable raws.

While unlikely, it would be interesting to know if the material can be used in a dwarf mood for item construction. Such an entry would save a lot of work in getting some, placing it, and waiting for a moody dwarf to lock in a room.
