Is this a bug?
« on: August 28, 2014, 06:47:36 pm »

Is this a bug? I have one tile of sunlight (removing the roots under a tree seems to let light through the ground, I feel that is a bug), on my farm plots. This shows me that the farm plot can be used for ALL underground and ALL aboveground plants (that can be planted, so sunberries not included). I have not edited the files save the graphics pack I have and the removal of aquifers, and from what I understand, aquifers and plants have no real correlation..

I don't include a picture because I, being new to this forum, have no idea how to put a picture in a post.

Yes, its a bug.  and you have to host the picture elsewhere, and then post the link.

Imgur is your friend right there. Also, please report bugs here, at the Mantis Tracker. Creating a bug tracker account is really easy, and it serves all us better than reporting it here at the forums.

Yes, it's a bug, and it also makes growing plants on some valid spots impossible, check out this thread. Quietust has described it very well.
If you have a subterranean farm plot with ANY "light" tiles, then you must move it somewhere else which is 100% dark - your dwarves will start planting at the upper-left corner and plant in columns toward the right, but the instant they reach a tile with improper light/dark status they will stop planting and never touch the rest of the farm plot.

I think that's an issue with it listing everything that can be planted "somewhere" in that field, and it dosn't tell you that those plants may only fit into a tiny sub-section of the field.

one slightly off topic question though, i see you mention " (that can be planted, so sunberries not included)."
are sun berries no longer plantable?

I think it's because the plot is not in a GOOD biome.  Sunberries need more than just sun to grow properly.  They also need rainbows, constant cute noises in the background, and unicorn farts.

That's new then, I know I used to buy sun berries of elves and farm from that in 34.11.

On topic, I think that's a design issue more then a bug.
It's the same way as a farm on a muddy stone floor, keeps being selectable if one part of the farm is mud covered, even if most of the mud vanishes, it just doesn't quite work(34.11 though, haven't played 40 much yet)

Also, if you build over the hole in this version, does it become "inside" again? if so, this is easy to fix, and if not, I would personally remove and rebuild the roof, and have a safe "outdoor" farm :)

I'm pretty sure that comment from the original poster was just a misunderstanding on his part - I just tested it, and you can definitely still plant sun berries in non-GOOD biomes.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.
