So I was in the fourth year of my fortress and had a nice road connecting me to greater civilization.

Summer rolls around and a nice big human caravan arrives.  Very shortly after, before the humans had even reached my front door, the goblins decide to siege.

I was unprepared - this was the earliest I had ever gotten sieged before.  No worries, I think.  The humans brought lots of swordsmen.  Bring it on, goblin scum.

Anyways, I scramble up a few marksdwarves and war dogs, but order them all to stay indoors.  

I also lock the front doors.

The goblins proceed to absolutely MURDER every last human, while sustaining moderate losses.  Now I'm a bit worried, so I open the doors.

A few goblins are killed by stone-fall traps and my tiny army gets a kill or two as well.  Though the goblins probably could have won had they pushed, I killed just enough to scare them into running.

Now with the humans completely destroyed, my dwarves go out and take the full contents of the caravan.  I make out like an absolute bandit.  It takes my haulers two seasons just to cart it all indoors.

Here's my question - do the humans get angry at me about this?  Should I expect a human retaliation on my fortress next year?

They will be upset, but I don't think they will seige you for it. Offer them extra fancy mugs next year to make up for it.

If they've been bringing home lots of profit in previous years, that'll also mitigate factors.

But yes, they will blame you for this.  The only question is do they like you enough to forgive you?

i've been trading nothing to the humans and killing their caravans for the last four years.  they still have not invaded.

toady posted the anger odds in another thread, so i guess i have to keep working on it.  also, i think its a big kicker if one of their nobles gets killed.  did a human merchant prince or diplomat happen to get killed in that raid?

Not sure which if any human nobles died

The one that prompts the trade priorities screen made it to my trade depot before the invasion really began

Don't know if he made it home

We'll see what happens, I'll offer them some nice stuff next year
