Hidden Civs?
« on: August 24, 2014, 05:51:59 pm »

At the start of the game, it was just me, the kobolds and an elf civ. Time passed by, and I've had no goblin attacks, so I was a bit relieved and disappointed that unless I pissed off the elves, I wouldn't be attacked. But then suddenly a human caravan arrives, it's civ appearing in the list. Could there still be goblins out there? Or did I hallucinate that?

This is an exceptional golden figurine of a Peregrine Falcon. All Maltese craftsmanship is of the highest quality. It is studded with Baguette-cut diamonds. It is covered in black lacquer. The item is a masterfully designed image of a pointed cross. The pointed cross is the symbol of the Knights Hospitaller.

There was a bug in one of the previous version where civs that are close to a fort didn't appear properly. That bug was fixed, so that the caravans would properly start coming, but the known civ list for the fix does not get updated until the civ caravan arrives. That could be your problem.

If so, yes goblins are possible too.

I'm pretty sure that it's always been the case that the (c)iv list doesn't show nearby civilizations until you actually make contact with them.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

Next time, when choosing a site, you can hit Tab to see different modes, such as elevation, cliffs.. etc. One of the modes shows what neighboring civs you will have. But I understand if you'd rather it be a surprise. :D

Mister Adams,
How many licks does it take to get to the [candy] center of a Dwarf Fortress?
