My fort just got killed by a random collapsing tree.
It pierced the river floor, into a room below, through said room, down another z-level, and soon my fort was flooded top to bottom.

Fuck.

EDIT: it's amazing how I'm still getting nearly 50 FPS while a river is draining into the fort.

If there's a full level of soil beneath the river, you're safe. Cave-ins can't pierce that. Just don't dig the level right below it, or cut all river trees and pave/road/stockpile 5 wide around the threatened sections of riverside.

Same applies to any of the area outside your main fort.  I mean, you don't want a branch falling and then your favorite forest titan to jump down the hole...

I've had that problem with lakes and they didn't have enough water to cause problems, just a mess having to cover up those holes afterwards
