34.11 military oddities
« on: August 08, 2014, 03:25:44 pm »

So my dwarves are leaving perfectly good iron helmets sitting in the armor stockpile (helmets were claimed from dead goblins, so not forbidden) despite having "metal uniform" requirements.

Also, my marksdwarves seem to mostly practice shooting at targets when they are off duty, when on duty they stand around with "go to archery practice" but don't actually do anything besides occasionally updating equipment.

Does anyone know solutions to these issues, and what causes them?

Thanks in advance

Do you have 'over clothing' or 'replace clothing' under (m)ilitary - (e)quipment? Hit r to toggle.

If you have 'over' and they already have a hat, they won't put on the new one.

Make sure you have a full set of clothes specified in their uniform, though, because when you toggle them and unpause they instantly strip naked.

If your archery range room size (flashing blue X's) overlaps the marksdwarve's squad's training barracks (ie. an armor stand set to train that squad) by at least one tile, I recall that they will use archery ranges while on Active/Training.

I just have archery targets set up for them, nothing else in the way of training facilities.

Set the uniforms to replace.  Activate the squad and give them a move order.  once all are assembled and armored you can toggle the over setting again and they will fill in the gaps with civilian clothes.

Also assigning specific items of armor is a little less messy (usually)

works in the current version too
