Questions about Oddities in 40.05
« on: August 05, 2014, 01:21:58 pm »

So I have run into two weird things while running 40.05 lately I wanted to ask about.

1.) The first is that I started my fortress while showing humans, elves, and goblins all near my embark point yet two years in I have not seen a soul beyond the dwarven traders who came once.  Any known bugs or issues out there about this?  I know of the issues with sieges but I thought elves not visiting the fort was a fixed bug.

2.) So my weaver went down into the caverns because hes an idiot to go get spider webs and when he saw a spider he ran in terror as I would expect.  What I didn't expect was that he ran 2 tiles away slammed into a wall broke his hand and passed out from the pain.  He eventually awoke but I have never seen a dwarf hurt themselves but slamming into something before and I was wondering if this was normal?  If so I must say Kudos to Toady because it was both hilarious and awesome.  I hope that weaver learned his lesson  ;)

I think this is a known bug - I'm not sure what other thread I was reading about it in, but I've seen others discuss it. The civilizations around you disappear.

That is indeed hilarious. If it's not a bug, it's a feature.

a) Yes, it's a known bug. It should hopefully be fixed in .07. Some people also reported that removing the [FLIER] tag to all creatures in the raws could fix civs never showing up after once but I'm not sure if this was the case.

b) People running from terror (a new feature) are much less careful about hurting themselves, if you read combat logs you'll see people falling over, smacking into people, tripping and dropping stuff, and so on. So it's a feature (though with how hilariously broken even basic damage is, tripping and falling can cause dwarves to break spines or limbs).
