I need a crutch; my adventurer had his left motor nerves severed (by a punch?) and the town I'm in has all sorts of bonecarvers, weaponsmiths, armorsmiths, leatherworkers, metalcrafters, bone carvers, general imports, and food imports, but I can't find any crutches.

Look in the mead halls in the hamlets. You may have to do a bit of searching, but they can be found there (along with loads of equipment).

Can I see them from the fast travel screen? (E.g. do they show up as "Houses" or "Mead halls?")

I'm not sure if it's universal to all texture packs, but in Phoebus, the names of the hamlets are bright pink in the fast travel map mode.

Oh, by the way, this is 34.11, so no mead halls.

You should've said that first... That changes it entirely. I'd say your best bet is to go looking through bandit camps and other lairs for one, because they're surprisingly rare.

Aaand that's a savescum. I went to a camp and the target was quite the dodger; I managed to lose the ability to grasp, though I survived by choking out my assailants then biting them in the throat until I opened arteries.

Try going to a keep or fortress.

I found one in .34 previously. I bonked an unconscious dragon on the head to kill it after a previous dragon bit off one of my legs. It was either in a keep or a store where I bought it.
