Can't find anvils while preparing my journey

Hi,

I type "anvil" and nothing is found, what's happening? I'm playing 0.40.05

How many embark points do you have left to spend?  Anything you can't afford won't show up on the lists, and anvils are pretty expensive.

This has happened to me on a few world gens - no anvils are available at embark, period. Unsure as to what leads to the event, though. I'd always assumed it meant no surviving civs had smithing cultures in place.

If dwarves have no iron, then they should have only steel anvils available, which cost 300 points. Very expensive. I never take any anvil, no matter iron or steel (I'm a slow starter, so don't need it right away), but pay attention to that, because that informs me whether my dwarves will have said iron in their caravan stocks.
