How does trading caged hostile creatures release them?
« on: July 26, 2014, 01:54:50 am »

I just recently put some caged elk birds, troglodytes and a minotaur to be desinated as to go to my trade depot as a trade good but only my elk birds made it and some how the others got free. How did this happen? They were able to be placed in my stock pile without a problem. Its does not help that it auto saved due to the changing of the seasons right in the middle of this. So I also want to know if there is a way to remove auto save upon a new season as this is causing me some major headaches.

From the wiki:
"When traders are around, you can select "move good to trading depot" and select the cage of choice. When a hauler takes the cage, any untameable creatures inside will be released. Be sure to disarm the creature beforehand..."

Its a bug (i think) that as been around for quite a while.

As for auto saves if you use the lazy noob pack or the 40.04 starter pack i believe there is an option to disable them. Just checks all the tabs.

Jam a door with its corpse and let all the goblins in. Hey, nobody said it had to be a weapon against your enemies.

It's not a bug, but a deliberate feature - the same feature prevents you from trading Artifacts and forbidden items (by removing them from their containers).

It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

Selling prisoners should be a thing. Though only to races that have ethics which allow it. The goblin caravan still a thing? I haven't seen one in ages.

It's never been a "thing" in vanilla - they only showed up if you edited the entity raws to make them no longer hostile to you (i.e. by removing [BABYSNATCHER] from them or by adding it to yourself).

Oh, i didn't know that. Thanks for the clarification.

I think that dwarven ethics makes them punish slavery harshly so not being able to sell prisoners as slaves actually makes sense.
