Duck and Cover - dwarves and things falling from the sky.
« on: July 14, 2014, 03:35:09 pm »

Anyone have this problem, or strange behavior?

First when I embarked it was Giant Ravens "Crashing", in randoms spot of the map, without reasons.
Sometimes lethaly.
They were fine a minute, then the next a combat report about crashing on the ground and a horrified dwarf find a mangled corpse.

Then it was a couples of migrants... I thought that they couldn't path to my fort accross the river, tried to climb the trees, and two of them failed a dice roll and crashed. Maybe those two are unrelated,  maybe not.

Now it's one of my farmers, holding a bag of suggar, apparently falling from a cliff he had no way and no reason to access. Well, he could have gone there, by walking a labyrinth, 30z level in the wrong direction, crossing the river, the canyon, then go around the whole map. I honestly doubt it, even knowing my dwarves.

Meanwhile, mosquito man and other stuff keeps falling from the sky.
One mosquito woman crashed on my main bridge, leaving one of my hauler horrified and crying. Wich is quite cool actually.

So, anyone have others strange cases of falling peoples in places they shouldn't?

Flying creatures often smash into trees, and collapse to the ground in piles of gore. Learn to weaponize trees against those flying abominations, and try not to feel like an elf.

Clearly a climbing issue. Something along the lines of "im trying to grab this skyblock to climb on it while im in midair. Cant use my wings. Wait theres no block here! AUUUGGHHHH *squish*

Peach faced lovebird men are doing this on my embark right meow, love it

PS: Seriously, you must have, like, super-getting-lost skills. You could go missing in a straight corridor and impale yourself on flat ground if I don't tell you where to go.

Best answer.
Not sure how I'll go about it yet, haven't actually managed a vaguely sort-of stable fort in 0.40 yet.

Just had a giant wren go splat against a cliff face. Good to know this is... normal?

They indeed not only take the trees.

Had a raven and a vulture suiciding against the cliff sides quite dramatically...

The birds obviously can't handle the thought of the dwarves being able to get to them via trees and climbing. Seeing as what we've done with mermaids and just about any other creature we can capture.

They're taking suicide over being domesticated and turned into egg laying war beasts and such.

I don't understand why you need magma.

Well done OP, you've inadvertently weaponized ghosts.

I can't wait to finally play this update... So much stuff is gonna be splattered around. I'm maybe considering embarking in a desert so that there's no cliffs or trees for things to smash into, but It's been a while since I played, so I'm rusty...

This is a side-effect of dwarven animal training (hit animal with hammer until it forgets that it hates you, then lovingly cuddle it).
