Dwarves can see in the dark
« on: July 10, 2014, 11:09:56 am »

Adventure mode suggestion:

Dwarves should be able to see in the dark, to an extent.

At least as well as goblins do.  I entered an abandoned fort, and was getting shot at by a goblin crossbow man down a looong dark hallway.  He saw me just fine but I had to stumble around in the dark to discover where it was coming from.

Just a thought!

That's a very good idea actually! I think that different races should see differently in the dark, like, the ones who see better in the dark are kobolds (they live in caves, so, kinda obvious), then goblins, then dwarves, then humans, and then elves (those pointy-eared, tree jihadist pansies don't know how to get around underground).

My second turn's unnoficial goal was to turn everyone into vampires, and it backfired so bad, I ended up making the fort a more efficient, safer and friendlier place.
Apparently they evolved a taste for everything I love and care about

Interesting.  I was actually thinking dwarves would see best in the dark, having regularly dwelled in the deepest and darkest places of the earth.  Even kobolds and goblins are more surfacey in my view.

There is a LOW_LIGHT_VISION tag in the raws.  Subterranean creatures including Dwarves seem to have [LOW_LIGHT_VISION:10000] while others are missing the tag, so I'm not sure exactly what it means.

Kobolds live in caves which open to the fresh air, they go on thieving raids across the grass. Goblins build TOWERS! Only Dwarves are truly the creatures of the deep.

A positive side of cave adaptation?

This would probably (it might not) be with the Lighting Arc.

This would probably (it might not) be with the Lighting Arc.

That would make sense, except right now we do have crude light effects (at night or underground) and non-player creature apparently have unlimited dark vision while a player adventurer is almost blind underground.

Maybe this should be more a bug fix than a suggestion in that case...
