I've never seen a naturally-occuring steel item in Adventurer mode either, but you can make that in fortress.

I'm probably not the only person who wants to try this out but is too thick to figure out what files to edit and what to look for in them.  Could you somebody give some pointers?

unfortunately guys, if you're unfamiliar with resident memory hacking software (like artmoney or gamewizard), i can't help you. so far the only editing i've been doing to this game was with a debugger and those memory hacks. so...no file editing.

The raw text files for weapons hold no information for materials, so I presume those are hardwired by now.
