Artificial Waterfall help
« on: July 02, 2014, 09:49:50 am »

Ive built the two screw pumps, but its not drawing any water and not making mist. What do I do? I have a brook near me and several ponds if anyone needs to make something.

You need to provide more details.  Are the two pumps stacked on top of each other?  Are both of them powered up?  Is there water underneath the intake tile of the bottom pump, and space behind it for the water to emerge?  Is the intake tile open space, or a downward stair, or...?

#=Misc blocks
~=Water
^, +=Pump
0=Channel (to underground/base water source)

Not entirely sure about your diagram, but it looks like you've dug out a 1x3 area for each pump and didn't leave any space for the actual output of the pumps.

Each pump requires a 1x4 area. They go
1. A channel to provide access to the Z level below where water is.
2. An  accessable spot for the pump that can be stood upon.
3. Another spot for the pump that handles the impassable tile.
4. A spot where the water pumped from below will be put.

Spot #2 being stand-able is required if the pump is to be dwarf-powered, and optional if it's powered by machinery.  (Although of course you need the area to be stand-able temporarily while you're digging it out and installing the pump.)

A wiki page jcochran provided says it all. It even has a 3D (!) animation how to create a proper pump stack.

I would strongly recommend going with machinery-powered pumpstack, else you will have your pretty waterfall going only when one of your lazy meatbags will decide to finally come and operate the goddamn pump.
