Wood Hauling Issues
« on: January 25, 2015, 08:49:04 am »

Hey guys. I'm trying to stockpile some wood inside my fortress, but... Dwarves aren't doing that, just being idle while I say: "If you're gonna stay under my roof then get a job!"
  • Wood Hauling Jobs are enabled.
  • Dwarves have free acess to the wood and the wood stockpile.
  • No burrow restrictions or anything that could block the way.
  • Stockpile accepts wood (some few logs were hauled there before they stopped)
  • Standing orders are enabled for wooden hauling
  • The wood isn't forbidden or anything like that.
Now, the real odd part:
Since no dwarf was hauling wood I made another wood stockpile outside the fortress. Then I set it to give to the main stockpile inside the fortress.
They hauled the wood to the outside stockpile and didn't bring it inside.

So, my toughts are: Is this a bug? And not that-importantly: how do I overcome it? I'm not real desperate about bringing the wood inside, since Dwarves can go outside and get it. My only worry is the upcoming goblin/undead siege and when it comes I want to have wood stockpiled.

Edit: Now the dwarves are refusing to use the logs. I have a huge stock of non-forbid wood that the dwarves refuse to believe exists. Anyone else having this?

Press "o"
Then look at the line beside "w"

Does it say "Dwarves Gather Wood" or "Dwarves Ignore Wood"?

Press "w" if it is the latter.

Anything else beside wood hauling is working? If you don't manage to find the cause, upload your zipped save folder to DFFD and fill a bugreport and add link to that uploaded folder so others can see what's going on.

@Bartok
Yep, I double-checked standing orders.

@Detros
More or less. The stock screen lists the avaliable wood, but the Dwarfs don't seem to "see" it. Currently I cut another load of wood and made a new Stockpile. I'll check how the dwarves will respond to that, but right now I don't have any wood hauler idle so I'll wait a little.

Update: I forbid wood in the main stockpile and now the dwarves are hauling the wood to the new stockpile I made. It was probably some issue with the main stockpile, but yet I can't figure that out. Should I still report that as bug or should I wait to see if other people are getting that?

What I do nowadays is dumping instead of creating a stockpile for logs.

I have this problem occasionally, usually when I stopped harvesting trees, ran out of wood, then started harvesting trees again. I find if you {p} {x} the wood stockpile to destroy it, then {p} {w} a new stockpile, that one works fine. It's like the first stockpile forgot to be able to collect wood (And no, I'm not in that situation where I've put a "take from" or "give to" link onto the stockpile and forgotten about the link, I double check each time).

Second Thisfox.  Same happens to me sometimes too and I usually clear and make a new one.  Also sometimes just saving and loading the game works too.

Have had this exact problem last two forts, also now I'm having an issue where no one wants to cut down trees either.

I remade the stockpile and it seems to work now. By the way I had the previous stockpile to give to another one for a while. Later I unset-it but it didn't work anyway. Maybe the bug is related to that?

Check if your designation on the tree cutting is set to 1 priority.
