An effective way to collect wounded
« on: June 20, 2014, 04:39:14 am »

I found this trick and I'm pretty pleased by it. Normally I use civilian alert during a siege, so everyone not given orders stays safely inside. Now when the danger has basically passed (enough) and a wounded dwarf is hanging out, I take the alert burrow and paint only the tile he is sitting on. And hey presto he's almost immediately hauled inside. During prolonged sieges this also allows "hot pickups" without everyone running outside to get themselves killed. Once all the wounded are collected, the alert can be ended and all the dwarves can run outside to collect their goodies.

A limited way to do this without the alert, would be to create a burrow encompassing only the hospital and the wounded dwarf, and adding some haulers to it.

Does the victim carriee need to be unconscious (i.e., asleep) for this to create a job for a carrier to haul the dwarf in?  Normally a spontaneous hauling to the hospital requires "injury + unconsciousness".

Nah, I get haulings for dwarves that are injured + immobile all the time.

In that case, I'm guessing its a matter of "I can't leave the burrow so I can't do job X that I want to do, so I'll just idle here and ... Oh!  Urist needs to see the doctor!"
