Can I install DFHack without Stonesense?
« on: June 05, 2014, 11:49:24 am »

Just curious.
I'm not sure if Stonesense will tank my framerate.
(I'm getting a framerate anywhere between less than one fps and eight fps, I don't want to make it worse.)

I'm pretty sure stonesense doesn't do anything unless you actually run it and you don't have to so your framerate issues are likely caused by something else.

Not only that, Stonesense runs on a separate thread so if you have multiple cores it won't slow down DF.

No, not true at all. Cuts my FPS in half on this quad-core. The fact that it's on a separate core in no way implies that it runs independently of DF (which would have to be true for your statement to make sense).

You can also delete it from DFHack without harm.

Do people still use quad-cores today? Wow Putnam, you are a veteran :).

Yeah, you're right, anecdotes. A better thing to say is that Stonesense has to read from DF for every rendering frame, which does, in fact, cut into DF's time somewhat.
