You're the guy who points out the !!SCIENCE!! is inaccurate as science isn't on fire, aren't you.
No, but I happen to agree with that person.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

Huh, so make a steel rookie squad then get them adamantine gear later on when they get better with armour using and stuff, got it.
I'd think adamantine armor would be better for the rookies so that they can move faster with less armor user skill. Then as they get more skilled and their stats increase you can swap them out for the heavier steel equipment.

I'll try that out.

Candy armor testing has shown (wish I had the link or time to find it, maybe later) that some pieces of armor are better as steel rather than candy, and vice versa due to the way damage is modeled. Bruising and chipping bones is more common with candy armor, which may or may not be worse than outright losing a limb. Chipped bones may make a dwarf pass out from pain, and end up headshot, while a missing limb will keep on fighting.

Really wish I could find that thread...

That's actually quite interesting. I haven't done any serious testing with it myself. I've read quite a bit on the subject and what I came away from it with was that it was the exception rather than the rule that steel can outperform adamantine when it comes to armor. The only testing I saw done where steel came out on top was with light wooden or I think perhaps bone projectiles. I guess to cover all bases one can simply layer both since adamantine weighs essentially nothing.

Edit: I was going to offer to do some testing but then I realized I already have a back log of testing I've promised to do so I think this one will have to wait. Maybe somebody can provide a link to a good armor science thread, if there is one on this subject.

It was the bolt material thread. IIRC, rigid adamantine armor was useless against most materials of bolts, which would punch right through. Flexible adamantine armor was still better than steel though.

Sorry if I got the details wrong, long thread is long and I have a meeting in a few.
